Question

How do people end up on the unsubscribe list?

Answer

There are essentially 3 ways that this can happen:

1. The recipient clicks on the unsubscribe link in an email

2. The client uses the Unsubscribes feature in BlastWizard (found in the left-hand nav bar) to either import a list of unsubs or do a one-off addition

3. Boomerang performs the unsubscribe via our administration tool

Unsubscribes can be accessed for lookup in two ways in BlastWizard. First, via the “Narrow Search” feature within the Unsubscribes section. But all this really tells you is that the person does indeed reside in the unsubscribe table for whatever datashare you happen to be in. The second way, and the one that I find more useful, is going to the Tool Box (also in the left hand nav bar) and using the Track Recipient feature.

When you do this, you can see how and when someone got into the unsubscribe table, as well what other datashares will inherit that unsubscribe.

In the Track Recipient section, there are two ways that an unsubscribe will be described in the “Output Method” column: From above, reason #1 will say "Optout Link in Job" and have the job number that the person unsubscribed from in the Job Number column. Reasons #2 and #3 will be described as “Imported”, so that you can distinguish between how people got in the table.
