Question

When sending a test email to my company email account from Boomerang's server, I receive an error stating that the address has been spoofed. How do I resolve this?

Answer

Issue

You have placed your company's domain name into the From: line and you are sending the test email (from Boomerang's servers) to your company's email server. Your company's email server knows it did not originate the email and, thus, prevents the delivery and errors this email has having been spoofed. The test will fail to deliver.

Resolutions

1. To temporarily receive your tests, use an alternative email address like Yahoo Mail, Hotmail or Gmail.
2. Contact your IT person and ask if they can allow these emails through.
3. To permanently resolve this issue but still use your corporate domain in the From line, Boomerang recommends several options:
  • Set up a subdomain on your main company's domain. As an example, if your company's domain is funfax.com, your subdomain could be news.funfax.com or mail.funfax.com or similar.
  • Purchase a new domain and use that in the From: line. An example might be, funfax-info.com or funfax-news.com (if available). Boomerang can purchase new domains on behalf of our clients, contact your Sales Rep for details.

How it works

With a subdomain, the From: line would become user@mail.funfax.com instead of user@funfax.com. This subdomain would not be considered spoofed by that mail server unless the IT person specifically sets up the subdomain into the corporate mail server at that company (this shouldn't happen).
With a new domain, the From: line would become user@newdomain.com and wouldn't be considered spoofed unless the IT person imports this domain into the company's mail server.
